WETS’07 WORKSHOP

World Energy Transmission System

Achievement and experience in service of long length (> 10 km), HV, EHV electrical links by AC insulated power cables

PARIS La Défense June 28th 2007

DISCUSSION TOPICS

The achievement of long lengths HV electrical links by insulated cables comes up against the problem of reactive power involved. However, long length links are already in operation.

The objective of the workshop is to permit an exchange of information between electrical utilities and manufacturers on the perspectives of power insulated cables for long distance power transmission.

TOPIC 1

Long length links in the world: Characteristics

  • Geographical situation of the link,
  • Design of the links,
  • Tests for qualification,
  • Characteristics of the link,
  • Characteristics of the cable,
  • Safety conditions for buried links and for links in tunnel.

TOPIC 2

Long length links in the world: Compensation of the reactive power

  • Is a compensation of the reactive power achieved? Why?
  • Characteristics of the compensation
  • Nominal power, technology, space occupied, cost, …
  • Position of the compensation.
